Doan Hoang Lam
Doan Hoang Lam (b. 1970, Vietnam) graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 1999 and belongs to a previous generation of painters who were academically-trained and had to endure the challenges of a technically-demanding art education system at the time. With the unique sensibility of an artist and the disciplined mindset of an artisan, Lam approaches each painting with clarity, utilizing its intrinsic visual vocabulary as the foundation for the formation of his ideas and experimentations. His art often takes as its starting point the physical body and mental state of human beings as they navigate the anxieties and uncertainty of contemporary society.
Doan Hoang Lam’s works have been widely exhibited in Vietnam, and abroad in Thailand, Malaysia and the US, and are included in the book Vietnam Eye: Contemporary Vietnamese Art, published by Skira in 2017 as part of the Global Eye Programme.
