Tuyen Nguyen

Tuyen Nguyen (b. 1992, Vietnam) graduated in 2018 from the HCMC University of Fine Arts. His work is characterised by bold movements, vivid colours and sharp outlines. For Tuyen, art is a way to be liberated from a sense of self. He responds to the daily events that occur in the ouside world and within the walls of his own home, his art acting as a distillation of his personal perspective. Tuyen is primarily concerned with issues of the environment, urbanization, dreams, and the figure of the tiny human trapped within the oppresive forces of modern society. His practice is influenced by the abstract tradition, specifically in painting, charcoal work, and lacquer.

His works have been twice showcased at the HCMC Museum of Fine Arts in 2016 and 2017. His recent exhibitions include Entrusting to Emptiness, Wiking Salon, HCMC, Vietnam, 2024; Huyền Tượng, Huyen Art House, HCMC, Vietnam 2023; Illuminated Curiosities, Nguyen Art Foundaiton, HCMC, Vietnam, 2022; Nổ Cái Bùm, Da Lat, Vietnam, 2022; LOVE is not to be disappointed with…, MoT+++, HCMC, Vietnam, 2022; Manimal, Craig Thomas Gallery, HCMC, Vietnam, 2020; Solo Sans Solo, A. Farm, HCMC, Vietnam, 2019; and All Animals are Equal, A. Farm, HCMC, Vietnam, 2018. Tuyen is among the artists selected in the Factory Contemporary Art Centre’s Materialize program. In 2019, he was selected as a resident of A. Farm, HCMC, Vietnam, an international art residency program supported by Nguyen Art Foundation.
