License 2 Draw (L2D) is a groundbreaking project that merges art and technology and facilitates collaborative creative expression across distances of up to 10,000 kilometers, all orchestrated through robotic technology. By simply downloading the L2D app, compatible with both Android and iOS devices, participants from disparate corners of the world gain access to command specialized drawing robots placed in a canvas. As these robotic artisans craft their art, their every movement is broadcast live, allowing viewers to witness the creative process unfold in real-time. Across continents and time zones, contributors from diverse backgrounds converge, each adding their unique brushstroke to their shared canvas. The result is a collection of abstract expressions, a testament to the collaborative spirit that transcends geographical and social boundaries.

As the world’s first crowd-sourcing app for art making, L2D not only represents a philosophy of artistic liberation, but also echos the daring and thought-provoking playfulness of UuDam’s practice. L2D emerged as a response to the militarization of contemporary life, particularly the rise of remote drone warfare. As the artist reflects, “License 2 Draw was inspired by the drone war of our time. I asked myself, if men can easily kill one another from thousands of kilometers away, can they draw on a canvas in the same way? That’s when the artwork License 2 Draw was born. In License 2 Draw, I set up a system that lets anyone with the app draw from where they are, on a canvas, in Vietnam.”
