White Noise: Three Parables + 1

Nguyen Art Foundation is proud to support White Noise: Three parables + 1, written by Alfonse Chiu and with illustration by Linh Meow. This publication was produced in response to White Noise, a group exhibition curated by Van Do.

In the words of curator Van Do:

“In the realm of sound, reverberation refers to the lingering persistence of a sound after its source has ceased. My process of realizing the exhibition White Noise mirrors the experience of many reverberations: I generated a sound and heard its echoes reach back. Each reverb came through in a distinct form, layering the original source with additional nuances and broadening its intended scope.

“In this special edition of White Noise: Three parables + 1, written by Alfonse Chiu and illustrated by Linh Meow, the reverbs have come full circle. When I initially proposed White Noise to Nguyen Art Foundation, it was envisioned as a project centered around fable writing, potentially including a children’s book dedicated to the students of the EMASI schools as one of its outputs… I invited [Alfonse] to write a response to White Noise in a format of their choice, a proposal they happily accepted, despite not having the opportunity to see the exhibition in person.

“As you might have guessed with the publication you are reading now, what I didn’t expect has happened: Alfonse returned with an anthology of fables, interweaving their wild creativity with a meticulous examination of the underlying elements and concepts that drive the exhibition.”

NAF’s Publications foreground the importance of reading and writing about art and culture as modes of knowledge production and transmission. We commission experts and writers, young and established, from both within and outside of Vietnam to develop publications with a local focus, but that embrace regional and international exchange.
