Hong Viet Dung
Hong Viet Dung (b. 1962, Vietnam) graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 1984 and is recognized as one of the members of the Gang of Five – a pioneering group of artists active during the Đổi Mới (Renovation) period, whose work helped shape the new direction of contemporary Vietnamese painting.
Hong Viet Dung’s style carries a sense of classical romanticism – serene, contemplative, and dreamlike – focusing on the holistic simplicity of nature. In his paintings, air and water seem to merge, softening all forms into fluid, misty shapes. His creative process is not driven by sudden transformation but by a continuous deepening into his own visual language, where forms are distilled to near abstraction, attaining a meditative stillness.
Hong Viet Dung has held solo exhibitions in Hanoi, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, Dubai, and the United Kingdom. His works are included in the collections of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, National Gallery Singapore, HRH The Duke of York (UK), and numerous private collections worldwide.
