Time, memory, a sense of desolation, and an enquiry into the essence of things – these are the driving forces behind Le Quy Tong’s ever-expanding practice and continuous exploration into different painting media. Always dabbed with a touch of elegance and an opulent though muted color palette, the landscapes Tong depicts in his early works almost never included humans. Here, the viewer is made lonely in a world both dreamlike and disorienting, confronted with architectural symbols of a city going through rapid modernization and industrialization.
