Always dabbed with a touch of elegance and an opulent though muted color palette, the landscapes Tong depicts in his early works almost never included humans. Here, the viewer is made lonely in a world both dreamlike and disorienting, confronted with architectural symbols of a city going through rapid modernization and industrialization.
