Tuyp Tran
Tuyp Tran (b. 1988, Vietnam) is a self-taught artist whose practice centers on intricate, multilayered pen-and-ink compositions that demand time both to create and to contemplate. His works provoke a vivid journey into the human psyche, using symbolic motifs to confront the mind’s contradictions, desires, and obsessions. Repackaged as alluring allegories, these images weave together sensuous, religious, political, and scientific narratives, prompting viewers to question and reimagine what they see. Balancing spontaneity with meticulous control, Tuyp’s lyrical aesthetic generates cryptic patterns and protruding forms that seem to quiver with agitation and movement. His practice resists specific historical contexts yet resonates with universal themes, inviting a slow, reflective engagement with the complexities of human experience.
In addition to his visual art practice, Tuyp is the founder of the fashion label Psyche and has held solo exhibitions at MoT+++ in 2016, 2017, and 2024.
