Talk with Hieu Y, Vuong An Nguyen, and Linh Le
Nguyen Art Foundation is delighted to have co-organized this program with Dự án Đo Đạc and Tản Mạn Kiến Trúc – 散漫建築 – Architecture Excursions. Hieu Y and Vuong An Nguyen talked about the formation of a system of deities in Vietnamese traditional folk beliefs, as well as the role of worship and communal houses in establishing relationships between humans and space. The speakers then delved into the rich history of Thu Thiem as well as its architectural structures such as communal houses and pagodas, thus raising thought-provoking questions on heritage and preservation: What connects people to a place? Will people return if the physical space no longer exists? How would heritage respond to chronological and socio-political changes?

Đo Đạc Project is a site-responsive art project with a focus on the Thu Thiem peninsula, initiated by Linh Le, with generous support from and exciting collaborations with various practitioners in Saigon. The project kicked off in July, 2024 with the first phase centered around “exercises against oblivion”.
Tản Mạn Kiến Trúc – 散漫建築 – Architecture Excursions, co-founded by Hieu Y and co-administered by Vuong An Nguyen, is a community project aimed at producing ethnographic knowledge on vernacular architecture in the Central and Southern parts of Vietnam.
