Doan Hoang Lam
Mother and Daughter 1
A part of Doan Hoang Lam’s body of paintings in Mortal Body, his solo exhibition from 2014, Dragon Dance and 13 other paintings were inspired by the artist’s reflections on the human condition in the modern motions of life. After discovering what seems to be the far-reaching end of human nature, he seeks an answer to the question he poses to himself: if human nature is ultimately the same, then will their exterior, the “outer mortal body”, have more features in common than differences?
Weaknesses, inferiority, pettiness, mediocrity and human innocence in the face of pressure and repression of a society made up of us, are revealed both clearly and subtly through the paintings.
